The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The process diagram illustrates the manufacturing of bamboo fabric in nine distinct stages.

Overall, the process includes eight steps, beginning with planting bamboo plants in Spring and ending with weaving to make fabric. Some of the major steps includes, planting, harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, and softening fabrics before spinning it to make yarn.

In the first step, bamboo plants are planted in the Spring season, followed by harvesting in Autumn. In the next step, the bamboo plants are cut into strips, and the resulting strips are then crushed to make liquid pulp. The subsequent step of crushing is filtering the liquid pulp. The liquid pulp is filtered to separate long fibres from the liquid.

In order to soften fibres, water and amine oxide is added. The softened fibre is then spinned to make yarn. The final step involves weaving to make fabric, and that fabric is then used for making clothes for instance shirts, socks etc.
