Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.in the following essay we are going to shed light in the following paragraph by selecting and reporting the main features, and making comparisions.

To begin with, there are nine steps included in how bamboo fabric is made. The first step involves Plant Bamboo is planted during spring season. The second step shows in Autumn season it is harvested.then followed by in third step the bamboos are cuted in strips. And in step four the strips are crushed before extracting the liquid pulp from it.in step five the liquid pulp is then filtered by seperated from long fibres. However, in step six the fibre gets soften with chemical process by adding water and amine oxide. Moreover, in step seven it is then spinned by making yarn.Similarly, in step eight the yarn is weaven to make the fabric.Lastly, at the end our final product is ready in the form of T-shirts, Pants and Socks.

Overall, this is the entire process which highlight the main procedure of making bamboo fabric from initial stage to its final product,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response successfully covers all nine stages of the bamboo fabric manufacturing process, from planting in spring to the final garments. However, the introduction includes unnecessary meta-language and memorised boilerplate ('in the following essay we are going to shed light...'), which detracts from an objective, academic presentation of visual data. While the main features are reported sequentially, the lack of a proper overview paragraph—the concluding sentence is fragmented and merely echoes the prompt rather than synthesizing key trends—limits the grade. To reach a higher band, the writer should integrate a clear overview statement highlighting the cyclical or multi-stage nature of the process without relying on memorised introductory templates.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is arranged sequentially using basic sequencing markers such as 'To begin with', 'then followed by', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly'. However, the paragraphing is poor; the entire body of the process is compressed into a single, dense paragraph, and the second sentence of the introduction awkwardly bleeds into a separate micro-paragraph. Furthermore, cohesive devices are often mechanically applied rather than flexibly managed (e.g., 'then followed by in third step'). Paragraphing is not used sufficiently and appropriately to chunk the stages of the diagram logically. To improve, the writer needs to divide the process stages into two or three distinct paragraphs representing major phases of production and use a wider variety of cohesive relationships.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is largely adequate for describing the diagram, incorporating specific process terms such as 'harvested', 'strips', 'liquid pulp', 'filtered', 'soften', 'spin', and 'weave'. However, there are notable word-choice and morphological errors, such as 'cuted' instead of 'cut', 'spinned' instead of 'spun', and 'weaven' instead of 'woven'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic verbs and direct copying of labels from the prompt. There is no successful attempt at sophisticated or less common lexical items beyond the technical terms provided in the stimulus image. Spelling and word-form errors impede precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is low due to frequent structural errors and awkward phrasing. Examples include 'The first step involves Plant Bamboo is planted...', which suffers from severe syntactical confusion, and 'filtered by seperated from long fibres', which contains a dangling participle/passive error. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'manufactured from bamboo.in the following') and comma splices. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures frequently result in ungrammatical clauses. The majority of sentences contain errors, preventing the score from reaching Band 6.
