The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The process diagram illustrates the production of fabric from bamboo plants.

Overall, it can be seen that the plantation of bamboo plants during Spring, followed by its harvestation in Autumn, which further undergoes several mechanical and chemical processes from cutting sticks into long fibres to soften them, resulting in the production of yarn, which is then used to make fabrics.

At the beginning, the bamboo plants are planted in Spring and harvested during Autumn. The stem is then cut into long strips followed by its crushing to form liquid pulp. The pulp then passes through a filtration process which is used to separate long strips from the liquid. The subsequent addition of water and amine oxide softens the fibre.

At step 7, the fibres are then spun resulting in the formation of yarn, which is then woven to make fabric. This fabric is further converted into different types of goods including shirts and socks.
