IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of making bamboo fabric, from planting bamboo plants tp producing clothes.

Overall, there are nine stages in the process. It begins with the growing and harvesting bamboo and ends with weaving the fibres into fabric, which is then used to make clothing. The process involves several mechanical and chemical steps to transform the raw bamboo into usable textile material.

Firstly, bamboo plants are planted in spring and harvested in autumn. After harvesting, the bamboo is cut into strips. These strips are then crushed to produce liquid pulp. Next, the pulp is filtered to seperate the long fibres from the liquid.

After that, the fibres are softened by adding water and ammonium oxide. The softened fibres are then spin to make yarn. In the following stages, the yarn is woven to produce bamboo fabric.This woven material forms the main textile that can be used in the clothing industry. Finally, the fabric is used to make clothes, such as t-shirts and socks.
