Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the nine-step diagram illustrating the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo. While the candidate successfully identifies the general nature of the process and mentions several key stages—such as planting in spring, harvesting in autumn, cutting into strips, creating pulp, adding amine oxide, spinning, and weaving—the coverage is hindered by inaccurate descriptions and imprecise reporting of the sequence. For instance, the transition from filtering to softening is confused, and the final stages lack clear reporting. The overview attempts to capture the main features by stating it is a nine-step process, but the execution suffers from developmental gaps and imprecise descriptions. Consequently, the performance aligns with Band 5 descriptors, as it addresses the task only partially with limited and under-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is structured into short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and poor sentence linking. While basic cohesive devices such as 'after that' and 'secondly' are employed, they are often overused or used inaccurately, leading to a mechanical and disjointed flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear structure, particularly in the body sections where steps are lumped together without smooth logical signposts. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'this is the thing that use to weave', which creates confusion for the reader. These organizational flaws place the response firmly in Band 4 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms and suffering from frequent word-choice and spelling errors (e.g., 'repreasinting', 'prosess', 'sesion', 'machen', 'methord', 'fibric', 'conclugen'). There are multiple instances of incorrect word forms and collocations, such as 'a yam that weave' instead of 'yarn that is woven' and 'nature role' instead of 'natural role'. While the candidate attempts to use some process-related terminology from the prompt, such as 'pulp', 'amine oxide', 'spin', and 'weave', the overall lexical range is limited and inadequate for a clear, precise description. Spelling and morphological errors are intrusive enough to cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4 descriptor profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex forms that result in severe structural errors, run-on sentences, and fragmented clauses (e.g., 'Prosess start from spring by planting bamboo and harvest in autumn after that it cuts into a strips by a machen then the crush strips use to make a liquid structure...'). There is a lack of control over basic grammatical conventions, including subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and passive voice formation, which are essential for process descriptions. Frequent errors distort the meaning and place a heavy burden on the reader throughout the text. This performance corresponds to Band 4.
