IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of producing fabric from bamboo. Overall, it is a linear process consisting of nine stages, beginning with the cultivation of bamboo and ending with the manufacture of clothing and other textile products.

Initially, bamboo plants are grown during the spring season. Once they have matured, they are harvested in autumn. The harvested bamboo is then cut into narrow strips, which are subsequently crushed to create a liquid pulp. After this, the pulp is filtered in order to separate the long fibers from the liquid.

In the next stage, the extracted fibers are softened by adding water and amine oxide. This treatment makes the fibers suitable for further processing. The softened fibers are then spun into yarn, which serves as the raw material for fabric production. Following this, the yarn is woven to from bamboo fabric.

In the final stage, the finished fabric is used to manufacture various clothing items, such as T-shirts and socks.
