IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given diagram illustrates the process of how bamboo fabric is made from scratch.

Overall, this process involves 9 main steps. First of all, bamboo plants are grown and harvested. Then separated into fibres from which yarn is made, that is later converted into fabric to make clothes.

The process starts in spring when bamboos are planted in the fields. In autumn these plants are mature and ready to be harvested. They are harvested manually or with a harvester.

The harvested bamboos are cut into strips using an electric cutter. Next those strips are crushed using a grinder to extract liquid pulp. Which is later filtered to separate long fibres from the liquid. The fibres are then treated with mixture of water and amine oxide to soften them.

The fibres are now ready to be transformed into yarn by spinning them. After which yarns are rolled into round shape. In the factory these yarn rolls are weave together to make fabric which is later used to make clothes like shirts and socks.
