The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given diagram illustrates the step by step formation of fabric from the bamboo plant.

The gust of diagram demonstrates that there are nine steps involved in the synthesis of fabric from bamboo which are: planting, harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spining, weaving and the last one is converting into desired fabric.

To begin with, the first step starts with sowing of the seeds in spring season. Planting is followed by harvesting process in which workers harvest the crops manually and gather the huge piles of harvested crops. Then ultimately harvested bamboo is transported for cutting process where specifcally designed rotatry blades are used to carry out this process. Here bamboo is being chopped down to desired strips sizes. After this process, pulp is extracted from the strips of bamboo and this pulp is further seived. The basic purpose of filtration of the pulp is to separate the fibres of the strips from the liquid part of the pulp.

In the sixth step, the strands (which are separated from the last step) are mixed with the softeners like water and amine oxide which ultimately softens the fibers for spining. Further long fibers are converted into yarns by rotating and spining. Then these yarns are weaved to make fabric. At last stage, fabric is used to make the desired clothes like t-shirts and socks.
