The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The diagram illustrates how bamboo is used for manufacturing of fabric.

Overall, the process consists of 9 total steps. It starts with planting of bamboo plants and ends with production of fabric after weaving. Although most steps are mechanical, there is filtering and softening of the fibres where the latter requires the addition of water and amine oxide.

The process of manufacturing starts with the planting of the bamboo in the spring season. Harvesting is done in autumn which precedes the cut of the plants into strips. The strips are consequently crushed in order to make the liquid pulp before being filtered in order to separate the long fibres from the liquid.

At step 6, the fibres are softened by the addition of water and amine oxide. Production of yams requires the fibres to be spun before they are weaved. Weaving is then done in order to make the fabric, which our clothes are made of.
