Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student attempts to cover all stages of the process diagram illustrating how fabric is manufactured from bamboo, from cultivation to the final products of shirts and socks. An overview is provided, noting the total number of stages and the general flow from harvesting and crushing to weaving. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and omissions in reporting the sequence and details. For example, the student states that the liquid pulp is filtered in the fifth stage, removing long fibres, whereas the diagram shows that the filtration separates long fibres from the liquid. Furthermore, the description of the later stages becomes confusing and disjointed, misinterpreting the order of softening, spinning, and weaving. While the main task is addressed, the lack of precise reporting and the confused sequencing prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the process. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'In detail,' 'in the fifth stage,' and 'In the sixth stage,' but they are often used mechanically or inaccurately, failing to clearly guide the reader through the linear process. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where pronouns and descriptive phrases like 'second stage' and 'carpet square' are misused or misplaced, resulting in a disjointed flow that hinders overall readability.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary adequate for basic communication, using terms related to the diagram such as 'cultivation,' 'harvesting,' 'liquid pulp,' and 'yarn.' However, there are frequent word-choice errors, incorrect forms, and non-standard collocations throughout the text, such as 'crush the strips' instead of 'crushing,' 'bomboo' (bamboo), 'cultivate' instead of 'cultivated,' and 'pulb' instead of 'pulp.' Attempts to use less common vocabulary often result in unnatural phrasing, such as 'round spin like a ball with yarn.' While the meaning can generally be discerned despite these errors, the lexical range remains basic and repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('stages include,' 'bamboo plants are cultivate'), tense inconsistencies ('when it is matured than the harvesting process begin'), and run-on sentences with comma splices ('soften fibres are mixed with water and amine oxide it actually make it able...'). These frequent errors, particularly in complex sentence forms, cause difficulty for the reader and impede the smooth delivery of information.
