Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates how bamboo fabric is produced from bamboo.
Overall, it is clear that the production of bamboo fabric includes eight stages, beginning with planting bamboo and ending with production of fabric items such as clothing.
To begin with, the first step is to plant the bamboo plants in spring season and after planting the bamboo plants now farmer harvest the bamboo plants in autumn season. Once the bamboo plants is harvested then it is cut into strips using a machine. After this the strips is crushed to make liquid pulp and then it is filter so that it can separate long fibres from liquid by filtering it.
At this point, water and amine oxide is added to soften the fibres so that it can be turned easily into yarn like a spin. This yarn is then woven to produce fabric. Finally, this fabric is used to produce finished clothing items, such as t-shirts and shock.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by outlining the main steps in the process of manufacturing bamboo fabric, and an overview is provided at the beginning. However, some parts of the task are handled more fully than others, and certain details are treated with limited development. For instance, the transition from raw materials to pulp is mentioned, but the description remains somewhat repetitive and mechanical without fully integrating all stages fluidly. The mechanical recounting of individual steps prevents the response from achieving a higher level of integration and development. To move up, the writer needs to synthesize the stages more cohesively and provide a more fully developed, comprehensive overview of how the entire linear and cyclical process operates from start to finish.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from the initial planting stage down to the final manufactured clothing items. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, overview, and body details, which helps structure the text. However, cohesion relies on somewhat mechanical and repetitive transitional phrases such as 'To begin with', 'After this', and 'At this point'. Referencing and logical connectors are sometimes basic or slightly repetitive, creating a choppy reading experience rather than a seamless flow. To reach the next band, the writer should employ a wider and more varied selection of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences is smoother and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing a simple manufacturing process, incorporating terms such as 'harvest', 'strips', 'liquid pulp', 'fibres', 'yarn', and 'fabric'. There are, however, noticeable word choice errors and slips, such as writing 'shock' instead of 'socks' and awkward phrasings like 'turned easily into yarn like a spin'. Less common lexical items are attempted, but they carry inaccuracies that occasionally distract from the precision of the description. To improve, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, apply precise scientific or technical terms more accurately, and ensure correct word forms and spelling throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the control over grammar is limited, featuring frequent errors. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement and singular/plural forms, such as 'the bamboo plants is harvested' and 'then the strips is crushed'. Furthermore, article usage and prepositional phrases are occasionally mishandled, and spelling errors like 'filter' instead of 'filtered' point towards structural control issues in verb tenses. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better command of subject-verb agreement, maintain consistent tense control, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
