Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates how bamboo fabric is produced from bamboo.
Overall, it is clear that the production of bamboo fabric includes eight stages, beginning with planting bamboo and ending with production of fabric items such as clothing.
To begin with, the first step is to plant the bamboo plants in the spring season and after planting the bamboo plants now the farmer harvest the bamboo plants in the autumn season. Once the bamboo plants are harvested then it is cut into strips using a machine. After this the strips are crushed to make liquid pulp and then it is filter so that long fibres can be separated from liquid by filtering it.
At this point, water and amine oxide is added to soften the fibres so that it can be turned easily into yarn by spinning. This yarn is then woven to produce fabric. Finally, this fabric is used to produce finished clothing items, such as t-shirts and shock.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the entire manufacturing process of bamboo fabric from planting to finished items. An overview is successfully provided in the second paragraph, identifying the total number of stages. However, some stages are more fully covered than others, and certain details are slightly underdeveloped or repetitive, such as the redundant phrasing when describing the planting step. To reach a higher band, the writer should ensure all key features are reported with equal clarity and extension without unnecessary repetition of basic actions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear separation into introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Logical progression is generally maintained using transition markers such as "To begin with", "Once", and "Finally". However, cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical, and referencing links between steps are sometimes repetitive or basic. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing pronouns are used precisely to link the sequential stages of the process smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a process diagram, incorporating terms like "harvest", "strips", "liquid pulp", and "yarn". There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by minor word-choice and spelling errors, such as "filter" instead of "filtered" and the misspelling "shock" instead of "socks". These errors do not impede overall communication, but they reflect a limited precision. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate more control over word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating basic control over sentence structures. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("the bamboo plants now the farmer harvest") and passive voice inaccuracies ("then it is filter"). These errors occur with some frequency across the text, though they rarely impede communication. To move up to the next band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free sentences and exercise better control over verb forms and passive constructions in complex sentences.
