Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The flow chart depicts linear process of manufacturing fabrics from bamboo.
Overall, there are nine distinct stages starting with planting bamboo plants in Spring, and ends with final fibrics such as t-shirts and socks.
From the linear process, it begins with growing of bamboo plants suitably during spring. It is waited until Autum and they are matured to be harvested. The harvested plants are chopped in strips which are are mixed with water and amine oxide in order to remain tender.Consequently, the slurry of soften fibres are filtered using filter funnels to separate long fibres from liquid. The obtained long strips are crushed into liquid pulp

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
This response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 105 words, which severely restricts its ability to fully address all parts of the task. While the student attempts to summarise the main features of the bamboo manufacturing process, the account is incomplete and cuts off before describing the final stages of spinning and weaving. The overview mentions the beginning and end, but the overall development is minimal and tangential due to the premature ending and omission of key steps from the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows some basic organisation with an introductory sentence and an overall summary statement. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the text ends abruptly. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Overall', 'From the linear process', and 'Consequently', but their usage is sometimes mechanical or imprecise. Paragraphing is also poorly developed, with a lack of clear separation between ideas and a strange standalone fragment at the end. Referencing is occasionally unclear, which affects the flow of information across the process steps.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary, demonstrating attempts at less common lexical items such as 'linear process', 'matured', and 'slurry'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors that detract from the quality, such as 'fibrics' instead of fabrics, 'Autum' instead of Autumn, 'chopped in strips' instead of chopped into strips, and 'soften fibres' instead of softened fibres. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they reflect a limited and occasionally inaccurate grasp of word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('plant bamboo plants'), incorrect prepositions ('chopped in strips'), subject-verb agreement issues ('strips which are are mixed'), and a missing full stop in the middle of the text ('spring. It is waited'). These frequent errors and awkward passive constructions cause some difficulty for the reader and keep the response at a lower band level.
