Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of how bamboo fabric is manufactured from planting to final products. However, some stages are more fully developed than others, and certain aspects lack clarity. For instance, the opening overview is repetitive and lacks precision, while details regarding the middle stages, such as crushing and filtering, are somewhat brief and under-developed. Nevertheless, the key linear sequence from spring planting through to spinning, weaving, and the creation of items like t-shirts and socks is captured, satisfying the requirements for a relevant overview and summary of main features without providing an entirely exhaustive account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression that follows the chronological order of the manufacturing process. Transitional and cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Then', 'After', and 'Following this' are utilized to guide the reader through the steps. However, cohesion is at times mechanical and referencing is not always clear, particularly in sentences lacking subjects like 'have to do plant bamboos' or 'spin the liquid continously will create thread'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the division of ideas could be structured more effectively to mirror the natural phases of the diagram, showing the characteristics expected at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully incorporating process-specific terms such as 'liquid pulp', 'amine oxide', 'fibers', 'spin', and 'weave'. However, there are noticeable limitations in lexical control and frequent word-choice errors, such as 'stirps' instead of 'strips', 'spread sheets' instead of 'sheets', and awkward phrasing like 'big balls' and 'ball shape thread'. Spelling mistakes like 'continousely' also occur. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in word form and collocation occasionally emerge, placing the response firmly at this level of lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammatical structures is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, missing subjects, and article usage, such as 'The process illustrate the How fabric is manufactured', 'have to do plant bamboos', and 'farmer cut those bamboo into stirps'. Prepositions and clause structures are also mishandled, as seen in 'spin the liquid continously will create thread'. These errors require some effort from the reader to decode the intended meaning, reflecting a pattern of frequent grammatical inaccuracies typical of this band level.
