Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo, from the cultivation of bamboo plants to the production of finished clothing items.
Initially, bamboo plant are planted in spring and allow to grow until autumn , when they are harvested. Then the harvested bamboo cut into strips and when the fourth stage reached these strips are crushed to produced liquid pulp. This pulp undergoes filteration process where long fibres get separated from liquid.
After that extracted fibres softened by adding water with amine oxide. Once the fibres have been softened , they are spun to produced yarn. Then weave produced from the yarn to make fabric. Finally , the manufactured bamboo fabric produced to make clothes and other clothing items.
In conclusion , it is the process of nine stage to make clothing fabric from bamboo plant.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the process diagram, from planting bamboo in spring to the final production of clothing items. However, the explanation is somewhat limited, and certain steps are treated superficially. Additionally, the response falls short of the word count requirement, containing only 138 words against the minimum of 150 words. To achieve a higher band, the writer should ensure the word count is fully met and provide a more thorough, well-developed account of the different phases in the manufacturing process.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, which bridges into the higher band's descriptors. Paragraphing is utilised, and chronological transitions such as 'Initially', 'Then', and 'Finally' provide a basic logical sequence. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the awkward phrasing 'when the fourth stage reached' and the repetitive use of 'produced'. While the logical progression is generally apparent, referencing and cohesive devices need more flexibility and precision to secure a higher level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for the task, successfully using terms like 'cultivation', 'harvested', 'liquid pulp', and 'fibres'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors that reveal a lack of precision, such as 'filteration' instead of 'filtration', and awkward collocations like 'weave produced from the yarn' and 'bamboo fabric produced to make clothes'. These inaccuracies indicate an attempt at less common vocabulary without full control, keeping the vocabulary score constrained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing auxiliary verbs and articles ('bamboo plant are planted', 'allow to grow', 'bamboo cut into strips'), incorrect passive or active voice forms, and punctuation issues with spaces before commas. These frequent errors in grammar and word forms can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited range of reliable structures.
