Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The provided diagram illustrates the step-by-step process of making fabric from bamboo.
Overall, the bamboo fabric production is a multi-stage process involving hand cutting techniques and some special chemicals to transform raw material into finished cloths.
To commence with, in the picture of bamboo fabric. in the first stage of bamboo fabric, the bamboo plants grows to a suitable height and the fully grown bamboo are ready for harvesting which is done by workers in the month of autumn. the harvested bamboo put into a cutting machines to be cut into strips proportion. The liquid pulp is then passed through a filter where long fibers are separated from liquid.
In the next stage, water and amine oxide are added to the fibers to make them softer so that the fiber can be spun to produce yarn. the yarn is then woven into fibric. In the final stage, this fabric is used to manufacture cloths like t-shirts or socks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by outlining the stages of making bamboo fabric, but some aspects are handled more fully than others. An overview is present, noting that it is a multi-stage process involving chemical and mechanical techniques, though it could be more fully developed. Certain steps from the visual are slightly under-developed or presented in a somewhat mechanical sequence, meaning the progression of the process lacks complete clarity in places. To reach a higher band, all stages should be reported with equal precision, ensuring that key transitional mechanisms between the growth phase, pulping, filtering, spinning, and final weaving are fully expanded rather than briefly summarised.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates an overall coherent arrangement, successfully guiding the reader through the linear stages of the manufacturing process from planting to final clothing items. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate the introduction, middle development, and conclusion stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or features slightly repetitive linking devices, such as 'In the next stage' and 'To commence with'. Referencing between sentences could also be smoother to avoid abrupt shifts. To move to a higher level of cohesion, the student should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing phrases link ideas seamlessly without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic concepts related to manufacturing, such as 'raw material', 'liquid pulp', and 'fibers'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'amine oxide' and 'multi-stage', but these attempts occasionally suffer from minor inaccuracies in word choice, form, or spelling, as seen in 'fibric' instead of 'fabric'. These lexical slips do not heavily impede communication. For a higher score, the student should aim to integrate a more precise and flexible range of less common lexical items with correct collocations and accurate spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text relies on a limited range of sentence structures, mixing simple sentences with basic complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as missing capitalization ('the bamboo plants grows', 'the harvested bamboo put into'), missing articles, and awkward punctuation around transitional phrases. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret and sometimes obscure the exact grammatical relationships between clauses. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures while maintaining much tighter control over subject-verb agreement, verb voices, and punctuation accuracy.
