Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by identifying most of the main stages in the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting and harvesting to weaving. However, the overview is limited, containing a sentence fragment ('Which strarts with planting and end with making cloths') that impacts clarity. Furthermore, some details are slightly mechanical or underdeveloped, and the conclusion introduces personal commentary and speculation about recycling rather than strictly summarising the visual data. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a clearer, more fully developed overall summary of the main trends or stages without adding outside information, and ensure all parts of the process are described with greater precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an attempt to follow the sequence of the diagram chronologically, utilizing transition markers such as 'Strating with', 'Further', and 'In sixth process'. However, the overall progression is hampered by faulty punctuation, sentence fragments, and awkward paragraphing. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting abruptly into subjective descriptions like 'very satisfying'. To improve, the writer should ensure that sentences are structurally complete, use cohesive links more naturally to guide the reader smoothly from one stage of the process to the next, and organize the text into logical, well-connected paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for describing a simple process. The student attempts some less common terms related to the diagram, such as 'amine oxide', 'liquid pulp', and 'fibers', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling mistakes and word-choice errors like 'strarts', 'crushhing', 'seprate', 'soften' instead of 'softened', and 'cloths' instead of 'clothes'. Additionally, repetition of phrases like 'process' and informal commentary ('very satisfying') restrict the range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, use precise technical terms accurately, and pay closer attention to word formation and spelling to ensure smooth communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and frequent sentence fragments (e.g., 'Which strarts with planting and end with making cloths'). There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement throughout the text, such as 'In Autumn bamboos are harvested by men' and 'Last two process are very satisfying that in second last process they weave'. Punctuation is also problematic in places. These persistent errors frequently strain the reader and obscure the meaning. To progress, the writer needs to practice forming accurate simple and complex sentences, monitor subject-verb agreement closely, and eliminate basic grammatical errors.
