Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of how bamboo fabric is manufactured, from planting to the final products. An overview is attempted at the beginning, identifying it as a nine-step cyclic process. However, some aspects of the process are under-developed or less clearly reported, such as missing the direct connection of crushing the strips into liquid pulp and describing the filtration phase rather vaguely. While the main features are successfully identified and presented in chronological order, the lack of full clarity in explaining certain intermediate transformations means the response sits comfortably within this level rather than achieving a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement to the essay, dividing the content into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that follow the chronological sequence of the diagram. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Initially', 'once', and 'during the next step'. However, the cohesion often feels mechanical and repetitive, and referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronoun usage and run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation boundaries. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the sentences within paragraphs creates a somewhat disjointed flow, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher level of organization.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing basic terms related to the process such as 'cultivate', 'strips', 'liquid pulp', and 'yarn'. There are several attempts to use less common or process-specific vocabulary, such as 'amine oxide', 'filtration', and 'dossing', but these are often accompanied by word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, or spelling mistakes, for example writing 'diffrent' instead of 'different', 'crused' instead of 'crushed', and 'shocks' instead of 'socks'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors are noticeable and can cause slight difficulty for the reader, limiting the score for this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or run-on compound sentences connected by conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing or incorrect articles, and issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'plants of bamboo is cultivat' and 'its take approximately'. Punctuation is also weak, with clauses run together without proper terminal punctuation or commas. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high density of structural errors means the grammar sits firmly within this lower band.
