Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all steps of the manufacturing process from planting the bamboo to the final retail products, successfully satisfying the basic requirements of an academic process description. However, some stages are presented with limited expansion and slightly mechanical coverage, which places the response in the mid-range. While the overall sequence is outlined, the descriptions of intermediate steps lack clear elaboration on how the physical transformation occurs, particularly regarding the filtration and chemical softening stages. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, but it is somewhat awkward in its phrasing ("it is a series of linear nine steps process"). To achieve a higher band, the overview needs to be more precise and salient features of the process should be highlighted with greater clarity and depth throughout the body.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical sequence mirroring the numbered steps in the diagram. Paragraphing is attempted, grouping the introduction, overview, and body into distinct blocks, though the third paragraph is densely packed and would benefit from being split into smaller thematic units. Cohesive devices such as "Overall," "Additionally," "After that," and "In the sixth step" are used to guide the reader through the sequence, but they can occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive. Referencing between sentences is generally functional, though occasional awkward phrasing creates slight bumps in the logical flow. More varied and flexible transitional phrases would elevate the organizational quality of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing a manufacturing process, incorporating relevant terms such as "harvested," "pulp," "fibres," "yarn," and "fabric." However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as "implant" instead of planting, "sticks" instead of stalks, "filteration" (spelling error), and "seperated" (spelling error). Furthermore, collocation and word forms are sometimes imprecise, for instance, "fabric is made into weave" instead of being woven into fabric. While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent slips in word choice, form, and spelling prevent the response from reaching a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and direct, repetitive descriptive clauses (e.g., "In the step one the sowing of bamboo plants..."). Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty grammar, missing verbs, or incorrect prepositions, such as "these harvested sticks need to cut" (passive voice error) and "these liquid is added with water" (subject-verb agreement and preposition errors). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing spaces after full commas and periods. Frequent errors across simple and complex forms cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a need for stronger control over basic syntactic patterns and verb formations.
