Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While it attempts to outline the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, the account is very basic and omits key details regarding how the steps interconnect. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, containing only 119 words. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on the steps provided in the diagram, clearly trace the entire sequence from start to finish without leaving out important connections, and ensure the word count requirement is fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response shows some basic organisation by grouping the description into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of information. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'Next' and 'than', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the sentences within the paragraphs lacks smooth logical flow. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of transitional markers and ensure that ideas are linked in a more natural, Reader-friendly sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for describing the process. The writer attempts some less common terms related to the diagram, such as 'soften fibres' and 'liquid pulp', but there are noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice, including 'yam' instead of yarn, 'shocks' instead of socks, and 'separating' instead of separated. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to build a more accurate and varied vocabulary suited to describing manufacturing processes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence forms and fragmented phrases rather than full, well-constructed clauses. Attempts at complex sentences or passive structures are frequently faulty, seen in phrases like 'Plant bamboo plants in spring season and harvest in autumn season'. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, articles, and sentence structure throughout the text that cause considerable difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student must practise forming complete sentences with accurate subject-verb agreement and a better mix of simple and complex structures.
