Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram illustrates the process by which bamboo tranformed into a finished fabric products.
Overall, the process consist of nine different stages, beginning with planting and harvesting of the bamboo, and ending with the production of finished fabric products. The raw bamboo before finishing undergone different stages such as cutting, softening, filtering, crushing, spinning and wovening.
First, bamboo plants grown in Spring, Next they are harvested in Autumn, when they are fully matured. In third satge. the harvested bamboo moved to crushing machine that cut it into small strips. Following this, these strips are crushed to create liquid pulp. These pulp filtered by the help of filter paper and separate long fiber.
In the sixth stage, these long fibers were softened by the addition of water and amine oxide. After that, the soften material spun to made yarn. Finally, the finished fabric is manufactured into clothing such as T-shirts and socks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of how bamboo fabric is manufactured from planting to finished products. An overview is successfully provided in the second paragraph, capturing the overall nine-stage nature of the process and the transition from raw material to finished goods. However, some stages are presented with limited development or slightly unclear transitions, such as the blending of cutting and crushing mechanisms, or the omission of precise details regarding certain sequential steps. While the main features are reported and basic comparisons or progressions are made, the lack of full extension in certain parts keeps the task achievement at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response achieves a coherent overall arrangement and clearly signals progression through the sequence using transitional devices such as 'First', 'Next', 'In third satge', and 'Finally'. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction and overview from the body details. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or repetitive in its referencing, and the transitional links occasionally lack smooth integration. Moving to the next band would require more sophisticated and flexible cohesive devices that guide the reader effortlessly through the stages without relying heavily on simple ordinal markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to manufacturing processes such as 'softening', 'filtering', 'pulp', and 'amine oxide'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that detract from precision, such as 'tranformed' instead of 'transformed', 'wovening' instead of 'weaving', and 'soften material' instead of 'softened material'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the limitations characteristic of this band. Enhancing precision and eliminating spelling and word-form errors would elevate the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but it is heavily impacted by frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and missing articles or prepositions. Examples include 'bamboo tranformed into', 'bamboo plants grown in Spring', 'Next they are harvested', 'In third satge. the harvested bamboo moved', and 'These pulp filtered by the help of filter paper'. These frequent inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited control of grammar. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better command over passive voice constructions and verb agreements.
