Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the diagram illustrating the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo, covering most of the steps from cultivation to the final product. However, the development of ideas is limited and mechanical. The description relies heavily on simply listing the steps in order (e.g., In the first step..., In next step..., In the 3rd step...) rather than selecting and reporting the main features or making meaningful comparisons and groupings. Furthermore, some parts of the process are under-developed or vague, such as the final transition where yarn is woven and converted into clothes. Overall, while the response addresses the basic topic, it only partially satisfies the requirements of a well-developed academic task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, successfully following the chronological sequence of the nine steps shown in the diagram. Basic cohesive devices and sequence markers are used to connect the ideas, such as In the first step, In next step, and In the 3rd step. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical. The division of the text is also suboptimal, with a very brief opening introduction followed by a single massive block of text for the rest of the process, lacking appropriate paragraphing to structure the information logically. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to group related stages into coherent paragraphs and employ a wider, more flexible range of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the basic stages of the process with terms like cultivation, harvesting, strips, pulp, filtration, and fiber. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and word formation that restrict the score. Examples of lexical errors and awkward collocations include carriedout instead of carried out, cutted down (an incorrect morphological form), furture instead of further, amin oxide instead of amine oxide, addtion instead of addition, spinining instead of spinning, and weaven instead of woven. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited and developing control over less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic active or passive constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., The diagram illustrate..., the plants gets mature), missing articles (e.g., in season of spring, to filtration section in were long fiber separated), incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences lacking punctuation (e.g., ...which ultimately converted cloths and used for other pruposed). These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of reliable control over complex sentence forms.
