Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the making of fabric from bamboo.

Overall, it is clear that there are two major stages which bamboo fabric is being made.

First and foremost, during spring is the most suitable reason to plant bamboo plants. Then, farm-men would be harvested it in Autumn. These bamboo plants then being cut into strips by a cutting machine. While cutting, there would be some crush strips (or leaves) which are not going to be wasted but instead being used to make liquid pulp. Following, a filter is being used to separate long fibers from liquid which then being added water and amine oxide to become soften fibers.

After the process of harvesting and going through machine, those soften fibers would be spinned to make yarn which then weave to make fabric. These fabrics is going to be used to make some final products which are use in our daily life, such as t-shirts, shocks and many other products.

In conclusion, the process of making bamboo fabric were being shown throughout two main stages which after gives out final product which are really useful in human's life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all major steps of the bamboo fabric manufacturing process, from the initial planting in spring to the final everyday products like t-shirts and socks. The overview provided in the second paragraph correctly identifies that there are multiple stages involved in the transformation. However, certain parts of the process are handled with limited detail or slight generalisations, such as describing the crushing and filtering stages rather mechanically. To reach a higher level, the response would need to extend and fully develop the description of all mechanical and chemical transformations with greater clarity and precision, ensuring every transition between the raw material and the finished goods is fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows the linear progression of the diagram from beginning to end. The writer uses sequential markers such as 'First and foremost', 'Then', and 'Following' to guide the reader through the various stages. However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or are used with awkward referencing, such as 'which then being added water', making the flow less than entirely natural. Paragraphing is attempted to separate the introduction, body details, and conclusion, but the internal logical links between sentences occasionally strain the flow, preventing the response from achieving a truly smooth and sophisticated progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe basic actions like 'plant', 'harvest', 'cut', and 'weave'. There are, however, noticeable word choice, word form, and collocation errors that reflect a limited and developing range, such as 'farm-men would be harvested it', 'crush strips', and 'soften fibers' instead of softened fibres. Additionally, 'shocks' is used instead of socks, and the expression 'suitbale reason' is inappropriate for a process description. These inaccuracies do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score, as the writer struggles to deploy less common vocabulary with consistent precision and correct morphological forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use passive structures like 'are being made' and 'is being used'. Nevertheless, there are frequent errors in verb forms, voice, and tense consistency throughout the text, including 'bamboo fabric is being made', 'would be harvested it', 'being cut', and 'fabrics is going to be used'. Prepositional usage and relative clause formations are also flawed, such as 'during spring is the most suitable reason' and 'stages which after gives out final product'. These errors occur regularly and require some effort from the reader to untangle, placing the grammar firmly within the expected boundaries of this band.
