Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram demonstrate the process of manufacturin of fabric from bamboo plant. Overall it can be seen that it is a nine step peocess, start with the plantation of bamboo plants in spring season and harvest in autumn to manufactures different types of clothes.
To begin with, Bamboo plants plant in spring season. Plant is harvested by people using some big knife in autumn season, after which it cut into strips some strip cutter is used to convert stem in to strips. Followed by strips is crushed to prepare liquid pulp, that Pulp transferes for filtration process to seprate long fibers from liquid by using filter. Then water and amine oxide is added on seprated fiber to make it soften, yam is prepared by spin soften fiber. after that weaving process is done like yam is weave to convert in to fabric, then fabric is used for manufactuing of different kinds of clothes such as T-shirt and Shocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to cover all the main steps of the bamboo manufacturing process, earning it a partial score. An overview is present at the beginning, noting that it is a nine-step process starting with plantation and ending with clothing production. However, several ideas and stages are inadequately developed or slightly confused. For example, phrases like 'Bamboo plants plant in spring season' and 'strip cutter is used to convert stem in to strips' show a lack of precise reporting and clear selection of key features. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to present a more fully developed overview and ensure all processes, such as the chemical softening and filtration phases, are described with greater clarity and precision without missing or misinterpreting the directional flow of the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text displays a coherent overall arrangement, divided into an introductory paragraph and an overview/body paragraph. There is a basic logical sequence that follows the progression of the diagram from step to step. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The writer relies on basic transition phrases like 'To begin with', but referencing and conjunction usage within the body of the paragraph become strained, such as 'Followed by strips is crushed' and abrupt shifts between sentences. Paragraphing is also limited, as the overview is merged directly with the introduction, and the entire body of the process is compressed into a single, dense paragraph. To improve in this area, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and separate distinct phases of the diagram into clearer paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. Examples of lexical slips include 'manufacturin' (manufacturing), 'peocess' (process), 'yam' (yarn), and 'Shocks' (Socks). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the process, such as 'plantation', 'filtration', and 'amine oxide', but inaccuracies in collocation and word formation—such as 'Bamboo plants plant' and 'yam is weave'—cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the lexical score. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use precise technical terms appropriate to process diagrams, and eliminate spelling and morphological errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled passive constructions. Attempts at complex sentences or passive voice frequently result in faulty grammar, such as 'after which it cut into strips' and 'that Pulp transferes for filtration process'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and prepositions within grammatical patterns throughout the text. These errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, improve the accuracy of verb tenses and passive structures, and reduce the frequency of grammatical errors across the response.
