Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of how bamboo fabric is manufactured, from planting to the final clothing items. An overview is attempted, although it contains some inaccuracies regarding the total number of steps. While the student identifies most of the key processes such as harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning, and weaving, certain details are somewhat under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the transition from liquid pulp to fibres is explained, but the flow of information occasionally lacks precise sequencing. To reach a higher band, the overview should more accurately reflect the overall process, and every stage described should maintain strict factual alignment with the visual prompt without introducing extraneous commentary or mischaracterising individual steps.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement, allowing the reader to follow the general progression of the manufacturing process from start to finish. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on basic transitional markers such as 'Initially', 'Subsequently', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally'. Paragraphing is also an area for improvement; the entire response is presented as a single block of text rather than being organized into logical paragraphs that separate the initial agricultural phase from the industrial processing and finishing stages. Referencing and pronoun use are occasionally unclear, which disrupts the natural flow of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices and utilize clear paragraph breaks to structure the information logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'cultivate', 'liquid pulp', 'amine oxide', and 'manufacture'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that detract from the overall quality. Examples include 'spining' instead of 'spinning', 'yam' instead of 'yarn', 'cultivate' instead of 'cultivated', 'squez' instead of 'squeeze', 'coverted' instead of 'converted', and 'roles' instead of 'rolls'. These inaccuracies do not entirely impede communication, but they reveal a limited control over spelling and precise collocation. To move into a higher band, the student should expand their control of less common vocabulary and carefully proofread their work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the grammatical control is inconsistent, resulting in frequent errors that occasionally strain comprehension. There are noticeable errors in verb tenses and forms, such as 'is cultivate' instead of 'is cultivated', 'it is weave' instead of 'it is woven', and 'procedure is fulfill' instead of 'procedure is fulfilled'. Furthermore, issues with subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage within grammatical patterns are present, as seen in phrases like 'experience a crushing process, in which machines squeez them'. Punctuation is also somewhat weak in places. To reach a higher band, the student needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over passive voice constructions, verb inflections, and agreement.
