Student answer (Band 4.5)

The diagram showns manufacturing bamboo fabric is made. By selecting and reporting the main features, and making comparison.

Overall, in the diagram the process is shown according to the season. There are different season and harvest method from plant bamboo to clothes. Like different style is used to make the clothe fabric soft and light, which can improve the quality.

Firstly, the start of plant is from spring where, it is planted and start to grow. And than in Autumn bamboo is cultivated for another process to make the bamboo soft and flexible. After cutting into strips it is crushed to strip to make liquid pulp which, helps to make the long fibre separated from liquid where filter is used.

And after filter is adopted to remove long fibres, soft fibres is generated where they add water and amine oxide. As a result, soften fibres helps to create spin of yarn.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, containing only 143 words, with several words copied directly from the prompt. The response addresses the task only minimally and tangentially. While it attempts to describe the bamboo manufacturing process, the information reported is inaccurate and confused. For instance, the text misinterprets the stages by stating that the start of the plant is from spring and harvested in autumn, but the description of the processing steps is very fragmented. The mechanical sequence of crushing, filtering, softening, and spinning is jumbled and lacks a clear, accurate reporting of the main features shown in the diagram. Ideas are limited and under-developed, leading to a minimal response that lacks a comprehensive overview of the entire nine-step process.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introductory attempt and sequencing words like 'Firstly', but there is no clear overall progression. The relationship between sentences is often strained, and referencing is frequently unclear, such as 'the start of plant is from spring where, it is planted' and 'And than in Autumn bamboo is cultivated for another process'. Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the text breaks abruptly into just two short blocks without logical separation of the process stages. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, leading to a disjointed flow that makes the sequence of steps hard to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, demonstrating basic control. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'plant bamboo' used as a noun phrase ('the start of plant'), 'cultivated' instead of harvested, 'crush to strip', and 'spin of yarn'. Word forms are frequently inaccurate, such as 'soften fibres' instead of 'softened fibres'. While the student attempts to use some process-specific vocabulary like 'liquid pulp', 'long fibre', and 'amine oxide', the frequent misuse of terms and awkward collocations restrict the response to a lower band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence patterns, with attempts at complex or relative clauses being frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, articles, and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include 'The diagram showns manufacturing bamboo fabric is made', unnecessary comma splices like 'spring where, it is planted', and agreement errors such as 'different season' instead of 'different seasons' and 'soften fibres helps'. Punctuation is intrusive and interferes with readability, and the high frequency of structural errors requires the reader to decode the meaning.
