Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram below illustrates the process making fabric from bamboo.
It can be seen that there are 7 steps are involved in the process of manufacturing the fabric from bamboo, starting from growing, harvesting, cutting, filtering, waving the yearn and at last making fabric out of it.
Firstly, the bamboo is grown in spring, when it reaches to the maximum size it is harvested in autumn by the farmer. That harvested bamboo is cut into strips, moreover those strips are crushed to make liquid pulp out of strips which is filtered by seperating long fiber from the liquid. The fiber which was obtained is added to the water and amine oxide to soften it.
In the seventh step, that soften fibers is spinned to make yarn, that yarn is waved with hands or machines to make fabric out of it. Lastly from that weave, fabric is created from which multiple items can be made like socks, shirts dresses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to cover all the steps shown in the process diagram of making bamboo fabric, but the information is presented with some inaccuracies and missing stages. For instance, the student states there are 7 steps when the diagram actually depicts 9 stages, and misses or misorders key details such as confusing the filtration and softening steps ("that fiber which was obtained is added to the water and amine oxide"). While an overview is attempted in the introduction, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and mechanical, with minor confusion regarding the sequence and specific actions in the middle of the process. To improve to a higher band, you should ensure all major steps are accurately transcribed and sequenced without omitting or misrepresenting any part of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall coherent arrangement, opening with an introductory sentence and attempting to group the stages into logical paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The student relies on basic transition words like "Firstly" and "Lastly", and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in "from that weave, fabric is created". Paragraphing is also somewhat unbalanced, with most of the description crammed into a single block of text after the introduction. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices, ensure clear progression throughout the steps, and structure your writing into well-defined paragraphs corresponding to different phases of the process.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate the general idea of manufacturing fabric from bamboo. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms. Examples include "waving" instead of weaving, "yearn" instead of yarn, "seperating" (misspelling), and awkward phrases like "soften fibers is spinned". Attempts to use less common vocabulary result in inaccuracies that occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader. To lift your lexical score to the next level, you should expand your range of precise process-related verbs and nouns, pay closer attention to spelling and word forms, and ensure collocations are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ("The fiber which was obtained...") and time clauses. However, there is a limited range of structures overall, and frequent errors in grammar are present. These include subject-verb agreement issues ("7 steps are involved", "that soften fibers is spinned"), article errors ("making fabric", "in spring"), and awkward passive voice constructions. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader at times. To move up to the next band, you must demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns, maintain accurate subject-verb agreement, and refine your use of passive voice and articles in technical descriptions.
