Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting to the final creation of clothing. However, some aspects are under-developed or described with minor inaccuracies; for instance, the text mentions planting seeds when the diagram shows planting bamboo plants, and some intermediary steps are glossed over rather than fully elaborated. An overview is present, noting the total number of steps and the general progression, which satisfies the requirements for this level, though a more clearly delineated summary of the entire linear and cyclical flow would elevate the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas that mirrors the steps in the diagram. Basic cohesive devices and sequence markers such as 'Initially', 'Then', 'Afterwards', and 'Finally' are used to guide the reader through the stages. Paragraphing is attempted, though it could be managed more effectively to separate the overview from the detailed body description. The half-band strength shows a clear attempt at organizing the sequential information smoothly, but referencing and cohesion are at times slightly mechanical, preventing it from achieving a higher level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'sequential steps', 'significant', 'flourish', 'smooth liquid pulp', and 'amine oxide'. However, there are some word-choice and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'sew in a way to make clothes' instead of being manufactured into garments, and 'spindles' instead of fibres. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the limitations characteristic of this band level where precision and natural collocation are occasionally lacking.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and imperative-like instructions or basic dependent clauses. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'The diagram is showing' instead of 'shows', 'all mentioned steps are' with a lowercase beginning, 'wait until the plant is flourish' instead of 'flourishes', and 'it is harvest' instead of 'harvested'. Furthermore, issues with articles and prepositions persist throughout the text. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally exert effort, placing the grammatical performance firmly at this level.
