Student answer (Band 5.5)

The picture depicts the information about the process and manufacturing of fabric from bamboo.

To begin with, first the bamboo plants are grown in the spring season and then harvested in autum. After harvesting the bamboo crop it is cut into the strips using a sharp blade cutter, and now after cutting the strips the bamboo strips are crushed and a liquid pulp is made from it . Additionally, the pulp is filtered to separate long bamboo bifres from the liquid pulp, after filteration the faibres are softened by adding water and amine oxide. Furthermore, the soften fibres are sppined to make yarn. Lastly, the yarn is weave to make fabric and at end the clothes are ready which is made from bamboo fabric.

Overall it is clear from all the perspective that the manufacturing of fabric from bamboo is of nine steps and also includes usage of machinaries and raw material.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all nine stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, but the information is presented somewhat mechanically without a fully developed overview. While you mention the total number of steps and the use of machinery, the overview lacks precision regarding the transition from agricultural steps to industrial processing. Key details, such as the specific transformation from strips to liquid pulp and the filtering stage, are described simply without drawing out the overarching sequence effectively. To reach a higher level, you should synthesise the main stages more comprehensively rather than merely listing each step sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains an overall logical arrangement by following the chronological flow of the diagram from planting to the finished clothing items. You use various linking expressions such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' to sequence the narrative. However, the cohesion can feel slightly repetitive and mechanical at times, with consecutive sentences starting with similar transitional phrases. Furthermore, paragraphing is underdeveloped; the response is squeezed into just a few blocks rather than properly dividing the introduction, body steps, and a distinct concluding overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, successfully incorporating specific process-related terms from the prompt such as 'harvest', 'liquid pulp', 'amine oxide', and 'yarn'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-form inaccuracies, including 'autum' instead of autumn, 'bifres' and 'faibres' instead of fibres, 'sppined' instead of spun, and 'weave' instead of woven. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes occasionally detract from the quality of the writing and prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple and repetitive compound forms connected by 'and'. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as article omissions and incorrect verb forms in passive constructions, exemplified by 'the bamboo plants are grown in the spring season and then harvested in autum' and 'the yarn is weave to make fabric'. Additionally, punctuation and preposition usage show frequent slips, which can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and keep the score at this level.
