Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided figure illustrates a step-by-step guide of manufacturing fabric from bamboo.
Overall, the process comprises nine distinct stages, operating in a linear sequence that begins with planting bamboo plants in Spring season and culminates in making clothes from fabric.
As first step, bamboo plants are planted in soil in Spring season and they are harvested in Autumn season. Next, a cutter is used to cut bamboo into stripes and these stripes are crushed to make make liquid pulp. Then, to filter it, long fibres are separated from liquid. Following this, water and amino oxide is added to soften fibres.
Further examination of figure shows that as seventh step, this fibre is spinned to make yam. At this tage a cicular football shaped yam is produced. Next, this yam is weaved to make fabric which is used for different clothing purposes. At last, this fabric is used to make different clothes like shirts, socks etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the main stages of the process, moving from the initial planting of bamboo to the final production of clothing items. An appropriate overview is provided in the second paragraph, outlining the linear nature and total number of steps. However, some stages are somewhat briefly reported or feature minor inaccuracies in interpretation, such as describing the resulting yarn as 'football shaped' rather than interpreting the visual data accurately, which is characteristic of the half-band level where some details are slightly underdeveloped or imprecise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the beginning to the end of the manufacturing process. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the stages, using sequencing words like 'As first step', 'Next', 'Then', and 'Following this'. However, some cohesive referencing feels slightly mechanical, and referencing could be smoother to fully achieve a higher band descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is attempted for the task, including process-specific terms such as 'manufacturing', 'linear sequence', 'liquid pulp', and 'fibres'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'stripes' instead of 'strips', 'make make', 'amino oxide' instead of 'amine oxide', 'spinned' instead of 'spun', 'yam' instead of 'yarn', and 'cicular' instead of 'circular'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing passive structures appropriately for a process description, such as 'bamboo plants are planted' and 'fibres are separated'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as 'As first step' (missing article), 'Spring season' (unnecessary capitalization), and slight awkwardness in clause linking. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede overall communication, placing the response solidly in this band.
