Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to describe the nine steps shown in the process diagram, providing an overview of how bamboo fabric is manufactured. However, the task is only partially addressed due to the inclusion of under-developed ideas and inaccurate reporting of some stages, such as stating the bamboo is 'get from tree' rather than a plant. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum 150-word count, sitting at 144 words. To improve, the writer needs to ensure all process steps are reported accurately without omitting key details, write a clearer and more comprehensive overview, and meet the minimum word length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some basic organization with a clear attempt to follow the sequence of the diagram using transition words such as 'Firstly' and 'at the end'. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and cohesive devices are often inaccurate or mechanically overused (e.g., 'Rather than it', 'To additionally'). Paragraphing is poorly handled, resulting in a clumped structure that makes the logical flow difficult to follow. To move to a higher band, the writer should use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices to link stages smoothly and organize the essay into logical paragraphs representing the introduction, overview, and body steps.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, with noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent spelling and word-form errors, such as 'daigram' instead of 'diagram', 'illustrait' instead of 'illustrates', 'liquied' instead of 'liquid', and 'souck' instead of 'socks'. The writer attempts to use some less common process-related vocabulary like 'pulp', 'fiber', and 'weave', but these are compromised by inaccurate word choices and non-standard collocations. To improve, the student must expand their vocabulary range for describing industrial processes and pay closer attention to basic spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is severely limited, relying on simple sentence structures and heavily flawed attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in verb forms, voice, tense, and prepositions, such as 'how the fabric is form', 'The bamboo was get from tree', 'the strips become crush', and 'the liquied pulp become filter'. These errors frequently cause confusion regarding whether steps are active or passive processes. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate consistent control over passive voice structures, which are essential for describing manufacturing processes, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
