Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response falls below the required minimum length of 150 words, containing only 133 words, which impacts the overall completeness of the task. While the student attempts to describe the nine steps of the bamboo fabric manufacturing process, the overview provided in the conclusion is extremely basic and lacks detail regarding the main trends or overall nature of the process. Furthermore, some stages are described too briefly, such as mentioning that clothes are ready in the ultimate stage without expanding on the final product or summarising the transition from yarn to fabric adequately. To achieve a higher band, the writer must meet the word count requirement and present a more fully developed overview that highlights key stages effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, guiding the reader logically through the sequential steps of the diagram. The student uses basic cohesive devices appropriately to link the stages together, such as 'In the next stage', 'Subsequently', and 'Later on'. Paragraphing is attempted, with an introduction, a body section, and a concluding overview, though the paragraphs are somewhat short and choppy. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of the linking words and the lack of advanced cohesive features keep the writing at this level. To improve, the writer should use more sophisticated and varied transitional phrases and ensure that paragraphs are structured with smoother logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the basic actions required in the manufacturing process, such as 'harvesting', 'crushed', 'filtration', 'softened', and 'spinning'. However, there are notable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as using 'scripts' instead of 'strips' and 'weaved' instead of 'woven'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and attempts at less common items sometimes result in slight inaccuracies. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of precise, task-specific vocabulary and eliminate mechanical errors in word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with basic structures generally under control. There are some attempts at passive voice constructions, such as 'bamboo plants are planted' and 'filtration of pulp takes place', which are appropriate for a process description. However, the response contains noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors, including missing spaces after punctuation marks and articles, as well as minor structural awkwardness. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of accuracy. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding the range of complex sentence structures while maintaining control over punctuation and verb forms.
