Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and gives a basic overview, noting that the process has nine steps and begins with planting and harvesting. However, it reports only a small part of the diagram: the cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning, weaving, and final clothing stages are not described. The claim that the process takes “about three months” is not supported by the diagram, which gives only the seasons for planting and harvesting. The overview also says the process ends with fabric, whereas the final illustrated stage is clothing items. The response is substantially below the required length, which contributes to its very limited coverage. To improve, describe the stages in sequence and ensure every detail is grounded in the visual.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a sentence about the first stages. The sequence from planting to harvesting is understandable, and “then” signals progression. However, the response stops before developing the process, so there is no clear progression through its later stages or a complete ending. The overview’s reference to “filtering” is not connected to an explanation of where it occurs, and the final sentence repeats the planting and harvesting information rather than adding a new stage. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the detailed sequence, then connect each stage with clear transitions such as “next,” “after this,” and “finally.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “manufacturing,” “harvesting,” “filtering,” and “plantation,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited because most of the diagram’s specific actions and materials are not named. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “plantation” does not clearly describe the first step, and “the manufacturing of fabric like clothes or socks” blurs the distinction between fabric and finished products. “Its filtering” is also an awkward way to refer to a stage. Aim for precise process terms such as “plant,” “cut into strips,” “crush,” “fibres,” “spin into yarn,” and “weave,” and distinguish the fabric from the clothing made from it.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including an overview with a relative clause (“which starts from…”) and a sequence joined with “and then.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation are frequent. For example, “the whole process consist” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the bamboo tree have planted” has an incorrect passive form; “the bamboo plants are planted” would be appropriate. The phrase “this usually process takes” also has faulty word order, and the comma spacing in “At start,in spring” needs correction. Practise accurate present-simple passive forms for process descriptions and check each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
