Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The process diagram describes the stages of fabric manufacturing from bamboo wood plant.

Overall, the process consists of total 9 stages mainly involve in bamboo plantations to its harvesting, strips cutting , and then crushing to make liquid pupl and filteration to separate the fibres to make clothes.

In Spring, farmers do plantations of bamboo plant. Then harvesting done in autumn season. Affter that long strips cut down through cutter into short segments . These segments are then soaked in a solution containing water and amine oxide. After that filteration process intiated. The purpose of filteration is to seaprate long fibres from liquid.

The crushing procedure mainly done in order to make liquid pulp from the strips. The long fibres from the filteration process are then collected to make yarn by spinning it in a roller. This yarn is then used to weave to make different sorts of clothes. In the end we have various kinds of fibrics made up of main source which is bamboo wood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the process as a sequence and include several key stages, including planting in spring, harvesting in autumn, filtering fibres, spinning yarn and weaving fabric. However, the account does not consistently report the diagram’s order: you place soaking with water and amine oxide before filtration, whereas the diagram shows crushing, filtering, then softening the fibres. The overview also says the process leads to clothes, but the final clothing stage is not clearly described, and “bamboo wood plant” is an imprecise description of the source. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the full sequence and describe each stage in the correct order, including the final products shown.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing stages. Sequencing expressions such as “Then,” “After that,” and “In the end” help the reader follow the process. However, the progression is weakened because the stages are not presented in diagram order: crushing is described after filtration, and the softening step is placed before both. The overview also groups several stages together in a way that makes the sequence difficult to track. Some transitions are repetitive, and references such as “These segments” and “This yarn” are not always supported by a clear preceding step. Organise the body strictly from planting through to clothing, using a small range of accurate transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” “spinning,” and “weave,” which allows the main subject to be understood. There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “solution containing water and amine oxide.” However, noticeable spelling errors—“pupl,” “Affter,” “seaprate,” and “fibrics”—and inaccurate or awkward collocations reduce precision. Phrases such as “do plantations,” “cutter,” and “bamboo wood plant” are not natural choices for this process. Aim for accurate forms such as “plant bamboo,” “cut with a saw,” and “bamboo plants,” and check spelling carefully. More precise process verbs would also help distinguish crushing, filtering and softening.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including “The purpose of filteration is to…” and “The long fibres from the filteration process are then collected to make yarn…”. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between stages unclear. Examples include “consists of total 9 stages,” “mainly involve,” “Then harvesting done,” and “long strips cut down,” where articles, agreement or auxiliary verbs are missing. Tense and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “The crushing procedure mainly done.” Practise forming complete passive sentences for process descriptions, for example, “The bamboo is harvested in autumn” and “The strips are crushed to produce liquid pulp.” Check articles, verb forms and agreement in each sentence.
