Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of producing fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Overall, it is evident that the process consists of several stages, beginning with the cultivation and harvesting of bamboo and ending with the produce final products such as clothes and shoes.

In the first stage, bamboo plants are planted in spring and harvested it autumn when they are ready. After that, the harvested bamboo is then cut into small strips using a cutting machine. Next, this strips are crushed to produce liquid pulp, which is subsequently filtered to separate the long fibrics from the liquid.

Following this, the extracted fibres are softened by adding water and amine oxide. Once the fibres have been softened, they can be used in the subsequent stages of fabric production. Finally, the processed fabres are transformed into bamboo fibres, which can be used to manufacture various textile products and produce clothes and daily expenses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the process as beginning with bamboo cultivation and harvesting and ending in products, and you accurately report several central stages, including cutting, crushing, filtering and softening. However, the account only partially covers the diagram: it omits the spinning of fibres into yarn and the weaving of yarn into fabric, and it incorrectly says the fibres are transformed into “bamboo fibres” rather than yarn. The overview also refers to “shoes,” which are not shown; the diagram depicts a T-shirt and socks. The final phrase “daily expenses” does not describe a product. To make the report more complete and clear, include all stages in sequence and ensure the overview and examples match the visual.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in process order, with transitions such as “After that,” “Next,” and “Following this.” This makes the early and middle stages reasonably easy to follow. The sequence becomes less coherent near the end, however, because “Once the fibres have been softened” is followed by a vague statement about later production, and the final sentence does not clearly connect the material to the diagram’s spinning, weaving and finished garments. Some linking is also mechanical, with several consecutive stage markers. For stronger progression, group the stages into clear phases and use precise references to show how each material changes into the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “cultivation,” “harvested,” “liquid pulp,” “filtered” and “softened,” which helps describe the manufacturing stages. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable: “fibrics” and “fabres” are misspellings, while “daily expenses” is an unsuitable phrase for products. “Produce final products” is also awkward and repetitive, and “bamboo fibres” does not accurately name the yarn produced at the spinning stage. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. Aim for accurate process terms and check spelling carefully; useful terms here include “fibres,” “yarn,” “weave” and “finished garments.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including a relative clause in “pulp, which is subsequently filtered” and a time clause beginning “Once the fibres have been softened.” However, errors occur in several sentence patterns. The opening, “the process of producing fabric is manufactured,” combines incompatible constructions. In “harvested it autumn,” the pronoun and preposition pattern is faulty, and “this strips are crushed” has a demonstrative-agreement error. The final sentence also has an unclear structure, making the relationship between the fibres and the products difficult to follow. Use one clear verb construction in the introduction, check agreement and prepositions, and make each stage’s subject and action explicit.
