Student answer (Band 5.5)

The picture illustrate the process, that how fabric is produced by bamboo.

Firstly, bamboo plants are cultivated in spring season because its best weather for bamboo plantation.Furthermore, harveting starts in autumn and cutting of bamboo begin, which is in form of strips. These strips are more pressed to make liquid pulp. After that, method of filteration takes place,in which long fibres are seperated from liquid.

Next step is to add water and amine oxide to make the fibres soften. However, spinning takes place to make the thread that is used in designing of many clothes.Additionally, weaving techniques are used to make many braids, which are produced to make fabric.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several central stages, including planting in spring, harvesting in autumn, crushing the strips into pulp, filtering, softening the fibres, and spinning. However, the response is substantially incomplete: it has 100 words, below the required 150, and it omits the final weaving stage and the production of finished clothing shown in the diagram. There is also no clear overview of the process as a whole, such as noting that it moves from seasonal cultivation through fibre processing to fabric and clothing. Some details are unclear or unsupported, including the claim that spring is the best weather and that the yarn is used to design clothes. Develop the full sequence accurately and include a concise overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The stages are presented in a generally understandable order, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “After that,” and “Next step” help the reader follow the process. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, the ideas are compressed into one paragraph, and the progression becomes unclear near the end: “weaving techniques are used to make many braids, which are produced to make fabric” does not clearly explain the diagram’s sequence from yarn to woven fabric and then clothing. “However” is also not an appropriate contrast marker between softening and spinning. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the process details, and choose linking expressions that show sequence rather than contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “cultivated,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” “spinning,” and “weaving.” These terms show an attempt to describe the stages rather than relying only on general words. However, several choices are inaccurate or awkward for this process: “more pressed” is not a natural description of crushing, “method of filteration” is cumbersome, and “braids” does not describe the fabric produced by weaving. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “harveting” and “seperated,” which reduce precision. Aim for accurate process collocations and check spelling; for example, describe strips as being crushed and fibres as being filtered or separated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some complex sentences, for example, “After that, method of filteration takes place, in which long fibres are seperated from liquid.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms occur frequently enough to make parts awkward. The opening, “The picture illustrate the process, that how fabric is produced by bamboo,” has subject–verb disagreement and an incorrectly formed clause. Other examples include “cutting of bamboo begin” and “Next step is to add,” where agreement or article use needs attention. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. Practise clear passive constructions for process descriptions, such as “The bamboo is cut into strips,” and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
