Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The diagram illustrates eight stages on how fabric is made from bamboo.
Overall, the process starts with planting of bamboo which will be harvested , cut into strips , crushed into strips filtered. soften the fibres, spin and finally weave to make fabric.
Bamboo is planted and at maturity is harvested. Cut into strips. The strips is crushed to get liquid pulp. The liquid pulp is filtered in order to separate long fibres. Afterwords the soften fibres will be mixed with water and amine oxide. The soften fibres is spin to make yam, this is afterwards weave to make fabric . later the weave if used to sow cloth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the process as beginning with planting and ending with fabric production, and you include several central stages, such as harvesting, crushing, filtering, spinning and weaving. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately present the full sequence: the diagram has nine steps, while you call it “eight stages” and omit the final stage showing clothing items. Some details are also misreported: water and amine oxide are added to soften the fibres, rather than the fibres being “mixed” with them, and the final step is making clothing, not “sowing cloth.” The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, which limits the detail you can provide. To improve, describe all nine stages accurately and add a clear overview of the process from cultivation to finished garments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure, with an opening statement, an overview and a paragraph describing the stages. The sequence is partly understandable through phrases such as “The liquid pulp is filtered” and “Afterwords,” and the stages generally follow the diagram’s order. However, the overview is difficult to follow because several actions are compressed into a list without clear links, and the main paragraph relies on short, disconnected statements such as “Cut into strips.” and “The strips is crushed.” Some linking expressions are also awkward or unclear, including “this is afterwards weave.” Use complete sentences and connect each stage with accurate sequencing language, such as “Next,” “Following this,” and “Finally.” Clearer paragraphing and reference to the material at each stage would make progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” and “weave,” so the reader can recognise many of the stages. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate enough to make parts unclear. For example, “yam” appears to be intended as “yarn,” “sow cloth” does not express the final use shown, and “soften fibres” is not the natural form for the material after treatment; “softened fibres” is appropriate. “Afterwords” is also a spelling error for “afterwards.” Aim for precise process terms and avoid repeating “strips” and “fibres” without clarifying what happens to them. Useful alternatives include “cultivate” for “plant,” “extract” for “separate,” and “garments” for “cloth” in the final stage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and a longer overview, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the process difficult to interpret. There are agreement problems in “The strips is crushed” and “The soften fibres is spin,” where the plural subjects require plural verb forms. The overview also contains an incomplete sequence of clauses, while “Cut into strips” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. In “this is afterwards weave,” the verb form is not correctly constructed, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent, as in “Overall, the process.” Use a consistent present simple passive for the stages—for example, “The strips are crushed” and “The fibres are spun”—and check that every sentence has a subject and a correctly formed verb. This would make the process description more accurate and readable.
