IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The presented diagram depicts the process of how fabric is made by harvesting bamboo. The whole process consist of 9 steps. Overall, it could be observed that fabric is stiched, can goes through a continues cycles. Where first plant bamboo, than harvest it and cut bamboo into strips, after that strips are crused and goes through a filtration process. At the end spin the soften fibers and use it to make clothes.
According to the diagram, In first stage bamboo are planted in spring season, in second stage farmers ahrvest bamboo plantation during autumn season. Third step involve a cutting process where these harvest bamboo cut into strips. In the next phase, these strips crush to make liquid pulp and then filtration process start, to filter fibers from liquid. In sixth stage some chemical involment performed, in which water and amine oxide add into soften fibers.
It is apparently seen that for 7th stage we spin soften fibers to make yam. As result, we use these yam to make different types of fabric, which could use to make clothes, ;ike shirt, socks, etc

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as having nine stages and include several accurate details, such as planting in spring, harvesting in autumn, crushing the strips into pulp, and adding water and amine oxide. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the full sequence: “fabric is stiched, can goes through a continues cycles” suggests a cycle, although the diagram shows a linear process. The account also omits the final weaving stage, and the description of stage six is imprecise: the fibres are softened using water and amine oxide. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the progression from growing bamboo to finished clothing, then report each key stage accurately, including weaving and the clothing shown at the end.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening overview followed by descriptions of the early and later stages. Sequencing expressions such as “In first stage,” “In the next phase,” and “for 7th stage” help the reader follow the process. However, progression is weakened by the unclear overview and by a sentence fragment beginning “Where first plant bamboo.” Some transitions are also awkward or repetitive, and the final paragraph ends abruptly rather than clearly completing the process. Organise the stages in a consistent sequence and use complete sentences; for example, connect the final steps explicitly as spinning, weaving, and making clothing. Clearer paragraph links and references would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “filtration,” and “fibers,” which helps convey the main subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “stiched,” “crused,” “ahrvest,” and “yam” for yarn. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “chemical involment performed” and “fabric is made by harvesting bamboo.” Choose precise process verbs and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the fibres as being softened with the stated substances, then spun into yarn and woven into fabric. More accurate vocabulary would make the stages clearer without needing more elaborate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and the use of sequencing clauses shows an effort to describe a multi-stage process. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction, sometimes making the meaning unclear. Examples include “The whole process consist,” “bamboo are planted,” “these harvest bamboo cut,” and “water and amine oxide add.” The overview also contains an incomplete construction: “Where first plant bamboo.” Practise using passive forms consistently for process descriptions, such as “the bamboo is planted” and “the strips are crushed,” and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate basic structures would make the sequence much easier to understand.
