IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagrams represents about the formation of clothes made from bamboo.
Overall, Formation of clothing from bamboo takes nine different stages from havesting each bamboos to weaving making a fabric.
After analysing the diagram, it is cystal clear that this process starts in springs season in which farmer plant bamboo plants. Next, farmer begins harvesting them in autumn season. Furthermore, After harvesting each bamboos farmer cut them into strips. Then, which the help of crushing method they extract liquid pulp from bamboo strips. After that collected liquid pulp went into filteration method to separate long fibres from liquid pulp.
Futhermore, by the combination of water and amine oxide into liquid pulp they form soften fabric. In the next stage they use spin technique to create yarn. while in second last stage, by the process of weaving they convert yarn into a fabric this fabric help to form regular garments such as tshirts, socks etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers the main stages and gives a clear overall account that the process has nine stages, from planting bamboo to producing fabric. It correctly includes the seasonal planting and harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning and weaving, and identifies clothing as the final product. This provides a relevant overview and enough detail for the reader to follow the process. Some descriptions are less precise than the diagram, however: the fibres are softened after filtering, rather than liquid pulp being turned into “soften fabric,” and the final stage is the production of clothing, not simply a fabric that helps form garments. To strengthen the report, describe each transformation accurately and make the overview distinguish the agricultural, fibre-processing and textile-making phases.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it begins with an overview and then follows the process in sequence, using markers such as “Next,” “After that” and “In the next stage.” The reader can generally track the stages despite the diagram’s changing direction across rows. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly the repeated “Furthermore,” and the sentence beginning “Then, which the help of crushing method” does not connect its ideas clearly. The final paragraph also combines softening, spinning, weaving and clothing in a long sequence, making the relationships less distinct. Use a wider range of accurate transitions and separate the stages into clearer sentence units; this would make the progression more fluent and cohesion less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is adequate process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” “yarn” and “weaving,” which helps communicate the main stages. The response also attempts more formal wording, such as “formation” and “combination,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “formation of clothes,” “soften fabric,” “filteration method” and “spin technique.” Spelling errors such as “havesting,” “cystal” and “Futhermore” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the general process, but they limit the control and naturalness of the vocabulary. Prefer direct process collocations—for example, “manufacture clothing,” “soften the fibres,” “filter the pulp” and “spin the fibres into yarn”—and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “in which farmer plant bamboo plants” and a time clause introduced by “After harvesting.” However, grammatical control is uneven. There are agreement and article errors in “The diagrams represents” and “farmer begins,” and tense or form problems in “collected liquid pulp went into” and “they form soften fabric.” The sentence “Then, which the help of crushing method they extract…” is also structurally faulty, while the final sentence joins several ideas without clear punctuation. These errors sometimes make relationships between stages harder to follow. Build accuracy with consistent present simple for process descriptions, correct singular/plural forms, and shorter sentences; then practise combining them with well-formed clauses.
