IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The process diagram illustrates the stages of manufacturing of fabric from bamboo from planting of bamboo plants to make clothes.
Overall, it is clear that, fabric into clothing is made from bamboo through nine stages which is categorized into 3 steps from storing of bamboo into strip then to transport it to factory to made soften fibre to finally made shirts and shocks from yarn.
Following the preparation, bamboo are planted in spring which are cutted into strips after harvesting in autumn. These cutted strips initially crushed through machines in factories to made liquid pulp which is then filtered to separated long fibres from liquid pulp. Finally, these long fibres are now mixed with water and amine oxide to get soften fibres.
After completing the procedure of separating fibres from bamboo, this soften fibres are extruded and then shaped into spin to made yarn. This yarn is finally transformed into weave to made fabric in factories ,where there are used to made various clothing items likes shirts and shocks etc

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main sequence from planting and autumn harvesting through processing, yarn, fabric and clothing, and your overview recognises that the process has nine stages. Several details are accurately reported, including cutting, crushing into pulp, filtering, and softening with water and amine oxide. However, the overview’s claim that the stages are “categorized into 3 steps” and that bamboo is transported to a factory is not supported by the diagram. The final stages are also blurred: the diagram shows fibres being spun into yarn, then yarn woven into fabric, and clothing shown as the final product. Your account addresses the task, but some features are unclear or less fully described; a more precise overview and clearer distinction between these final stages would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs that move through the process in sequence. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Following the preparation,” and “Finally” help guide the reader, and the stages are generally presented in the correct order. Some connections are less clear, however. “Following the preparation” does not clearly identify which stages are being referred to, while “After completing the procedure of separating fibres” repeats information from the previous paragraph. The overview also introduces “3 steps” without explaining how these relate to the nine stages. Use paragraphing to group the stages more precisely and choose references that make each transition explicit; this would make the progression more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “filtered,” “fibres,” and “yarn,” which allows the reader to follow the general production sequence. There is also an attempt to use more specific terms such as “amine oxide.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “storing of bamboo into strip,” “extruded,” “transformed into weave,” and “shocks” do not describe the diagram clearly. Repeated use of “made” also limits precision, and spelling errors such as “cutted” and “shocks” reduce control. Build a more reliable set of process verbs—such as “crush,” “separate,” “spin,” and “weave”—and check spelling and natural combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a passive construction in “which is then filtered” and a time clause in “after harvesting in autumn.” These choices suit a process description, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors sometimes make relationships between stages difficult to follow. Examples include “bamboo are planted,” “which are cutted,” “to made liquid pulp,” and “this soften fibres are,” where agreement, verb forms, and sentence structure need correction. Articles and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “fabric into clothing is made” and the missing space after “autumn.” Practise accurate passive forms (“is planted,” “are cut,” “is crushed”) and use shorter, complete sentences when describing each stage; this will improve clarity while retaining some structural variety.
