IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hare is the procedure of the formation of the bamboo fabrics by passing through a number of ways. It will enlist all the catagories of how fabric is manufactured from the bamboo plant,

Firstly, a plant is harvested in the season of autmun named as a bamboo plant. After the lot of workers efforts, plant is cutted into smaller strips. Later on, these pieces of stips are passed out from the machine, that crushed it to make a pulp.

Secondly, this liquid pulp is then passed out from the filtration process, here it is filtered to separate the elongated fibers from liquid as well.

Thirdly, small amount of water plus amine oxide is added in it to make the texture softer and smoothier.

Lastly, this mixture is rotates in to spinning machine to make the yarn. Now, during the last process of bamboo fibre method, yarn makes the fabric by passing through weave procedure. Finally this technique make the shirts or socks in result.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You describe several central stages accurately, including crushing the strips into pulp, filtering out long fibres, softening them with water and amine oxide, and turning yarn into fabric and clothing. However, the account is only partial: it omits the initial planting in spring and does not clearly distinguish this from harvesting in autumn. The overview is also vague—“passing through a number of ways”—rather than identifying the process as a sequence from growing bamboo to finished garments. Some details are unclear or unsupported, such as “a lot of workers” and the pulp being passed through a machine. To strengthen the response, report the full sequence and give a concise overview of its beginning, transformation stages, and final products.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally understandable sequence, supported by signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Thirdly,” and “Lastly.” Paragraph breaks also separate parts of the process, so the reader can follow the movement from cutting and crushing to fibre treatment and weaving. However, the progression is not fully clear because the opening is vague and the first stage is described as harvesting, while planting is omitted. Some links are mechanical, and the final sentence runs directly into the preceding one: “weave procedure.Finally”. References such as “this mixture” are not always precise. Organise the stages in the diagram’s exact order and use clearer links between each transformation to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “pulp,” “filtration,” “fibers,” “spinning,” and “weave,” which helps communicate the main manufacturing stages. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “formation” for production, “catagories” for stages, “cutted,” and “smoothier.” “Passed out from the machine” is also an unnatural way to describe processing, while “elongated fibers” is less precise than “long fibres.” Check spelling and word forms, and choose standard process collocations. More precise verbs such as “harvest,” “crush,” “filter,” “soften,” “spin,” and “weave” would make the description clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “a machine, that crushed it to make a pulp” and a sequence of clauses describing later stages. However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between actions difficult to follow. For example, “a plant is harvested” does not clearly express the intended sequence, “plant is cutted” has an incorrect verb form, and “this mixture is rotates” combines incompatible verb forms. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “this technique make.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly “weave procedure.Finally.” Practise accurate passive constructions for process descriptions, such as “the strips are crushed,” and check tense, agreement, and sentence punctuation.
