IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The provided diagram illustrates the manufacturing process of fabric, which can be made using bamboo.
Overall, the process consist of nine stages, beginning with the initial stage of growing bamboo in spring season and ending with the product made from fabric.
In the first stage, bamboo plants grows in the spring season and after an ideal growth, it is ready for the harvest in autumn in 2nd stage. In 3rd stage, it cuts into strips through sharp blade cutter machine. In 4th stage, strips crushes and use to make liquid pulp. Moreover, in 5th stage, filteration process filters the long fibers from liquid.
Furthermore, in 6th stage, adding the water and amine oxide into the long fibers make the lengthy fibers soften. In 7th stage, after spinning the fibers, it transforms into thread ball which can be used to make yam. In 8th stage, thread ball transform into weave and it can be used to make products. Lastly, In 9th stage, fabric products like shirt and socks shown in map can be produced via weaves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the process from planting through to the finished clothing, and your overview correctly identifies nine stages, the seasonal start and the final products. Several details are also accurately reported, including harvesting in autumn, separating long fibres from liquid, and adding water and amine oxide. This gives the response a clear, relevant account of the diagram. However, some stages are less fully or precisely described: the diagram shows the strips being crushed to make liquid pulp, then the fibres softened, spun into yarn, and woven into fabric. The description of the yarn as a “thread ball” and the explanation of the final stages blur these distinctions. To strengthen the response further, report each transformation precisely and make the overview capture the progression from raw bamboo to finished garments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows the diagram’s sequence, and the use of “Overall,” “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Lastly” helps signal progression. The opening overview is separated from the stage-by-stage account, so the reader can distinguish the main process from its details. This is a clear and logical organisation. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, because many sentences begin with a numbered stage, and “Moreover” and “Furthermore” add little beyond the sequence itself. The final sentence also repeats the idea that products are made from fabric rather than providing a distinct concluding point. You could improve flow by grouping related stages into paragraphs and using more varied references, such as “the resulting pulp” or “these fibres,” while keeping the order explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of process vocabulary, including “harvest,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibers,” “spinning,” and “weave.” These terms make the stages generally understandable, and the response attempts more specific language such as “amine oxide.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “sharp blade cutter machine” is not a natural description of the cutting stage, “yam” appears where “yarn” is intended, and “thread ball” does not clearly name the yarn produced. “Filteration” is also misspelled. These errors do not prevent the reader from following the process, but more accurate technical terms would improve precision. Prefer the diagram’s wording where possible, such as “cut into strips,” “spin into yarn,” and “weave into fabric.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and longer structures, for example the overview beginning “Overall” and the sentence explaining that water and amine oxide soften the fibres. The sequence remains understandable despite some grammatical errors. However, subject–verb agreement and passive constructions need more consistent control: “the process consist” should be “the process consists,” “bamboo plants grows” should be “bamboo plants grow,” and “it cuts into strips” should be “it is cut into strips.” There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “in spring season” and “In 7th stage, after spinning the fibers, it transforms.” Practise accurate passive forms for manufacturing processes and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
