IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram illustrates that how Bamboo fabric is produced by following different stages.
Overall, the process consists of nine main stages, beginning with plantation of bamboo and ending with the outcome in shape of shirt and other garment items.
Initially, babmoo plant grew up in spring session and after that the harvesting duration starts in Autumn. By following the same lines, plant passess through cutting machine that cut them into strips. In next phase, the solid strips are converted into liquid pulp and then filteration process occured. By adding some quantity of amine oxide and water the fabric converted into soft form.
Subsequently, spin section comes into work and prepare yarn from the raw material. This process is time taking and more accuracy and competancy required to fulfill this task within the given time period. After this step yarm is processed and weaved to make final product. The final product of this whole process can be a shirt, trouser etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You give a relevant account of the process and include its nine-stage structure, with an overview that identifies bamboo planting as the start and clothing as the end. Several key stages are reported accurately, including harvesting in autumn, cutting the bamboo, producing pulp, filtering, softening the fibres with water and amine oxide, spinning yarn, and weaving fabric. However, some details are less fully or precisely described: the final stage is shown as finished clothing, including a T-shirt and socks, whereas “trouser etc.” is not specified. The claim that spinning is time-consuming and requires accuracy is not supported by the diagram. Focus on describing only visible information and make the sequence and transformations more exact.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by the early processing stages and then the later stages. Sequencing expressions such as “Initially,” “In next phase,” and “Subsequently” help the reader follow the process, and the progression is generally logical. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, a few links are awkward or unclear, particularly “By following the same lines” and “After this step yarm is processed and weaved,” where the relationship between spinning, yarn, and weaving is not expressed cleanly. Use precise transitions such as “Next” and “Once the fibres have been spun into yarn” to make each stage connect naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “filteration,” “amine oxide,” “yarn,” and “weaved.” These terms show awareness of the topic, although several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “plantation of bamboo,” “harvesting duration,” “spin section,” and “final product … can be a shirt, trouser etc.” Spelling errors including “babmoo,” “passess,” “competancy,” and “yarm” also reduce precision. The meaning is usually recoverable, but the vocabulary is not consistently controlled. Prefer standard process collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, describe fibres being spun into yarn and yarn being woven into fabric.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a time clause in “after that the harvesting duration starts in Autumn” and a sequence of actions joined with “and then.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “illustrates that how” uses an unnecessary conjunction, “plant passess” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “the fabric converted into soft form” is missing an auxiliary verb. There are also tense and article issues in “bamboo plant grew up” and “in shape of shirt.” Aim for consistent present simple or passive forms when describing a process, and check that each clause has a complete verb phrase and appropriate articles.
