Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of how clothes gets manufactured from bamboo.

Overall, the whole process of making clothes from bamboo takes place in two seasons which are Spring and Autumn. Moreover, there can be seen a total of 9 to make clothes from bamboo.

The very first thing to do while starting the process is to plant bamboo which takes place in the Spring season. In addition to, after a whole season of Spring in Autumn harvesting is the thing that needs to be completed after. The cutting and crushing is the third and fourth step leading towards filtering. Which means to separate long fibres from liquid.

On to the next step where we have to soften the fibres that refers to adding water and amine oxide after filtering. Nevertheless, the second last step is where the yarn gets created. In the end, fabric is manufactred by weaveing and the clothes are produced after the whole process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the process as beginning with planting in spring and harvesting in autumn, and you include several key stages, such as cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning and weaving. However, the overview is unclear: “a total of 9 to make clothes” does not explain that the diagram shows nine stages, and the response does not clearly summarise the progression from raw bamboo to finished clothing. Some details are also imprecise. For example, the diagram shows that filtering separates long fibres from liquid, but this is presented as a fragment rather than integrated into the process description. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the main phases and describe the final clothing stage explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and paragraphs describing the stages. The sequence is generally understandable, and phrases such as “The very first thing” and “In the end” help signal progression. However, some links are awkward or unclear: “In addition to” does not connect naturally to the following sentence, while “Which means to separate long fibres from liquid” is an incomplete sentence whose reference is not fully clear. “Nevertheless” also suggests contrast where the process is simply continuing. Use straightforward sequencing language and connect each stage in complete sentences, so the reader can follow the process without having to infer how the steps relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “fibres,” “filtering,” “yarn” and “fabric,” which helps communicate the main stages. There is some repetition of “process” and “step,” and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “a total of 9 to make clothes” and “the yarn gets created.” Spelling and word-form errors in “manufactred” and “weaveing” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise process language and natural collocations, for example, “the process consists of nine stages,” “the fibres are spun into yarn,” and “the yarn is woven into fabric.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a time clause in “after a whole season of Spring in Autumn.” However, some sentence structures are awkward or incomplete. “The cutting and crushing is the third and fourth step” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unclear singular/plural construction, while “Which means to separate long fibres from liquid” is a fragment. The opening also has an agreement error in “clothes gets manufactured.” Work on matching verbs to plural subjects, forming complete sentences, and using passive structures consistently for a process description. For example: “The fibres are filtered to separate the long strands from the liquid.”
