The process diagram below describes how fabric is manufactured from bamboo plants.
Overall, the picture illustrates ten main steps, which are involved in the production of fabric, by which different types of clothes are made. The process starts from sowing of bamboo plants and ends at production of fabric.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the topic and give an overview, but the account is far too incomplete to cover the process adequately. The diagram has nine stages, whereas you report “ten main steps,” and the overview says production “ends at production of fabric,” omitting the final clothing stage. You mention planting, harvesting and cutting, but the response stops at “The soften fibres,” leaving out crushing, filtering, softening, spinning, weaving and the finished garments. The planting season is also described as “sowing,” although the diagram shows plants being grown. The required minimum of 150 words is not met, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, describe the full sequence accurately and include a complete overview of its start and end.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic organisational framework: an opening sentence, an overview paragraph, and a paragraph beginning with the early stages. The sequence from planting to harvesting and cutting is understandable, and “then” helps signal order. However, the response ends abruptly with “The soften fibres,” so there is no progression through most of the process or concluding stage. The overview also conflicts with the diagram by stating there are ten steps and that the process ends with fabric production. Cohesive links are limited, and the long final sentence joins several stages without clear punctuation or separation. Use paragraphs to group the growing and manufacturing stages, and connect each stage with clear, varied sequencing language.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary such as “manufactured,” “harvested,” “strips,” and “fabric,” which makes the topic clear. There is also an attempt to use more specific wording, including “cutting machine.” However, the range is restricted because only the first few stages are described, and some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “sowing” does not match the diagram’s planting stage, while “production of fabric” is repeated and does not capture the final clothing items. “The soften fibres” is also an incomplete and unclear phrase. Build a wider set of accurate process terms, such as “crush,” “filter,” “spin,” and “weave,” and use precise nouns for the final products. Avoid repeating the same general wording when a more specific term is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and a longer sentence linking stages, and the opening sentence is grammatically clear. However, control is uneven in the longer construction: “then harvested bamboo plants cut into strips” is missing a passive verb, and “The soften fibres” is an incomplete clause. The overview’s phrase “ten main steps, which are involved” uses an unnecessary relative clause, while “starts from sowing” and “ends at production” show problems with grammatical patterns and articles. Punctuation is also limited in the sentence that combines planting, harvesting and cutting. Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions—for example, “the bamboo is harvested” and “the strips are crushed”—and check that every sentence has a complete subject and verb.
