Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify several central stages, including harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning and weaving, so the response is relevant to the process. However, it gives only a minimal account of the task: there is no clear overview of the process as a whole, and the planting stage is inaccurately described as a man planting bamboo on a farm. The final stage, where the fabric is made into clothing, is also unclear. The response ends with the incomplete phrase “All these process show ba,” which leaves the summary unfinished. In addition, the response is 15 words below the required minimum. To improve, give a concise overview, report the stages accurately from planting in spring to finished clothing, and complete the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The stages are mostly presented in the correct sequence, and ordinal markers such as “Next step,” “Fourth step” and “Last step” help the reader follow the process. This provides some basic organisation. However, the response is arranged as a series of short, separate statements rather than a clearly developed summary, and it has no distinct overview or paragraph structure. Repeated use of “step” makes the linking mechanical, while “Next step” is used more than once without clarifying the progression. The final sentence is cut off, disrupting the ending. Group the stages into a beginning, processing stages and final product, and use a wider range of accurate links such as “After harvesting” and “Once the fibres have been softened.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvest,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibre,” “yarn” and “fabric,” which allows the main sequence to be recognised. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “we will sea,” “a separate long fibre,” “all weave of fabric” and “cloths of fabric stuf.” Spelling errors such as “diagrm” and “impotant” also reduce clarity. Some phrases repeat “soften fibre” or “step” rather than expressing the process precisely. Build a more accurate set of process verbs and collocations, for example “the fibres are separated,” “the fibres are spun into yarn,” and “the yarn is woven into fabric.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences are simple statements, and this basic structure helps communicate parts of the sequence. However, grammatical control is weak and errors occur frequently. The opening, “The diagram elucidate information,” has subject–verb disagreement, while “According to diagram” is missing an article. Verb forms and sentence construction are also problematic in “A man cut bamboo into strips” and “Next step is collect all yarn … to make weave in to a fabric.” The final line, “All these process show ba,” is incomplete and contains agreement problems. There is little variety in sentence patterns, with most stages presented as fragments or repetitive simple clauses. Practise accurate passive forms for processes, such as “The strips are crushed,” and connect stages using correctly formed clauses.
