IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the process of how bamboo fabric is made by glowing the plants and make the final products.
Overall, the procedure consists of nine-steps begin with plant bamboo and ends with manufacture the shirts and socks. During these processes, plants are glowed, harvested, crushed, added water, weaved and finally, make the things that wearble.
Initially, plants are glow in the season of spring and harvested in autumn. After that, plants are cuted into strips and crushed these strips for making liquid pulp. Subsequently, filteration process occured for separate long fibres from liquid.
In other stages, soften fibres are made and water and amine oxide are added in this process. After that, soften fibres are created the ball structure that called spin, to make the yarn. weave are mde before the process of final things. Finally, the shirts and socks are created for wearing. This process consist of 9 stages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main stages and give a clear overall outline: the process has nine steps, begins with planting in spring, and ends with clothing. Several details are accurately reported, including autumn harvesting, cutting and crushing the bamboo, filtering the liquid, and adding water and amine oxide to soften the fibres. However, some stages are unclear or inaccurately described. For example, the diagram shows spinning fibres into yarn and then weaving the yarn into fabric; it does not show softened fibres forming a ball. The final step is the production of clothing, rather than simply “the shirts and socks are created for wearing.” Make each stage’s input and result explicit, especially the transition from fibres to yarn to fabric.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the stages. Sequencing expressions such as “Initially,” “After that,” “Subsequently,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the process. The overall progression is generally clear, but some links are mechanical or confusing. “In other stages” does not clearly signal where the process resumes, and “After that, soften fibres are created the ball structure that called spin” makes the relationship between softening and spinning difficult to follow. The overview also repeats the nine-stage point at the end. Group the stages in their diagram order and use clearer references to show how each material changes from pulp to fibres, yarn, fabric, and clothing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “long fibres,” and “amine oxide,” which helps convey the subject. There is also some attempt to use more formal wording, such as “illustrates” and “subsequently.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations reduce precision: “glowing” is used where you mean growing, “cuted” is not the correct form, and “things that wearble” is unclear. “Filteration” and “weaved” also weaken the description of the stages. Choose standard process terms and check spelling and word forms; precise verbs such as “spin,” “weave,” and “produce” will make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the ball structure that called spin” and a sequence of linked process clauses. The main stages can usually be understood, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “the procedure consists of nine-steps begin” needs a correctly formed clause, while “plants are glow” and “filteration process occured for separate” have faulty verb patterns. “Weave are mde before the process of final things” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Practise passive forms for process descriptions and ensure each sentence has a complete, correctly formed verb phrase.
