Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram depicts the manufacturing process of fabric from bamboo
Overall, it can be seen the manufacturing of fabric consists of 9 different steps. Strating with planting bamboo tree to the final production of various socks and clothing items. It is a linear process.
At the first stage of the process bamboo tree is planted in the spring season, while it was harvested by a framer in the autumn. After that harvested bamboo cut by a machine into multiple strips and crushed those strips to make liquid pulp. Next, a filter is used to separate the long fibers from liquid.
In the following steps, a substance called amine oxide mixed with water for soften the fiber. In the 7th stage, fibers are spun to make yarn. Moreover, those yarns are used to make weave at the 8th satge to make fabric out of it. Finally, weaves are used to make different kinds of clothing items like T-shirt and sock.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the process from planting through to finished clothing, and the overview identifies its nine stages and linear nature. The seasonal details and the main transformations—cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning and weaving—are generally reported accurately. The final clothing items are also included. This gives the reader a clear account of the diagram, although some stages are less fully described: for example, the overview could highlight the shift from growing and harvesting bamboo to processing fibres and then producing fabric and garments. A few descriptions are imprecise, such as saying yarns “make weave” rather than explaining that they are woven into fabric. A more explicit summary of the process’s main phases and more precise stage descriptions would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is arranged in a sensible sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by the early processing stages and then the later production stages. Linking expressions such as “After that,” “Next,” “In the following steps,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the diagram. The paragraphing also broadly supports this progression. However, some connections are mechanical, and the overview sentence runs directly into the next sentence without clear punctuation: “clothing items. It is a linear process.” References such as “those yarns” and “weaves” are not always clear, and the final stages could be linked more precisely to show that yarn is woven into fabric before garments are made. More controlled referencing and smoother transitions would make the progression more cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “filter,” “fibers,” “spun,” and “fabric.” These terms allow you to describe most stages clearly, and the response attempts more specific language such as “amine oxide.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “make weave,” “weaves are used,” and “a framer” do not express the intended meanings naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “Strating” and “satge,” and inconsistent spelling of “fiber/fibers.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Use standard process collocations such as “weave the yarn into fabric” and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some more complex forms, including the contrast in “while it was harvested … in the autumn” and the purpose phrase “to make liquid pulp.” The sequence remains understandable, but several grammatical errors occur. For example, “it can be seen the manufacturing” needs “that,” while “bamboo tree is planted” and “harvested bamboo cut” omit articles or auxiliary verbs. In “a substance called amine oxide mixed with water for soften,” the passive verb form and infinitive construction are faulty. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly the run-together overview sentences and the extra space before “weaves.” Check articles, passive forms, and verb patterns; greater accuracy in these areas would improve control while retaining your range of sentence structures.
