IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The illustration gives informaton about how bamboo fabric is made. Overall, this procedure is completed in nine steps start from growing of bamboo plants and end with end products like t-shirt and soaks. Beside this cutting, filteration, crushing, spining and weave process all are take place in a sequence.
It is quite evident from the given diagram firstly, the bamboo plants are grown in spring. After that harvest these plants in autumn with the help of machine and cut into strips by cutting machine. Then, crush these strips to make liquid pulp. However, filter these pulp to seprate the long fibers from the liquid. Then, soften these large fibers by adding small quantity of waters and also amine oxide.
Furthermore, spin these fibers into spining machine to make yarm. After that weave this and made fabric. Finally, the end products are made through these fabric material like T-shirts and soaks. At last, for the manufacturing of fabric from bamboo is necessary to take all steps in a sequence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main stages from planting bamboo in spring to producing fabric and finished clothing, and your overview identifies the nine-step sequence. The details about harvesting in autumn, crushing the strips into pulp, filtering the fibres, and softening them with water and amine oxide are relevant and mostly accurate. However, some stages are less fully or precisely reported: the diagram shows weaving fabric and then clothing items, while “made fabric” and “end products” are only briefly described. It also does not specify a machine for harvesting or spinning, so these details should not be added. A clearer overview of the process’s agricultural, fibre-processing, and textile-making phases would make the key features more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by the early processing stages and then the final textile stages. Sequencing expressions such as “After that,” “Then,” “Furthermore,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the process. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several sentences beginning in the same way, and the overview’s list of processes does not clearly explain how they relate. “However” is also not an appropriate contrast marker before filtering, since filtering is simply the next stage. Improve progression by grouping the stages into clearer phases and using transitions that show sequence or purpose accurately. The final sentence repeats the idea that the steps occur in sequence rather than adding a useful concluding feature.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvest,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibers,” “weave,” and “fabric,” which allows the main stages to be understood. There are also attempts at more specific terms, such as “amine oxide.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “informaton,” “filteration,” “spining,” “yarm,” and “soaks.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “small quantity of waters” and “these fabric material” do not describe the diagram clearly. Choose accurate process terms and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise verbs such as “separate,” “soften,” and “produce” can help you describe each stage without awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the sequence is generally understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “this procedure is completed in nine steps start from” needs a consistent verb pattern, while “all are take place” has incorrect verb agreement and form. “After that harvest these plants” is missing a clear subject, and “weave this and made fabric” shifts incorrectly between verb forms. There are also problems with plurals and determiners in “these pulp” and “these fabric material.” Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and consistent tense, and check agreement and articles. More accurate control of these patterns would make the process easier to follow.
