Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram presents the 9 stages of how bamboo fabric is made.
Overall, the bamboo fabric has 9 stages of process from planting bamboo in spring and harveting it in autum. The process begins on cutting to filtering and adding some chemicals to produce yarn to make a final product made from a bamboo.
The bamboo is planted during the season of spring and harvested in autum, whereas the process beggins by cutting it into strips and crushing it to make a liquid pulp continuosly it will be filtered to seperate long fibers from liquid to soften the fibers a chemical added amine oxide combined with water.
From softening the fibers it proceed to spinning to make a yarn after that to produce a fabric a weaving process it to make a final product of clothing made from a bamboo plants.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the process as having nine stages and include the key sequence from seasonal planting and harvesting through to yarn, fabric and clothing. You also report several important details, such as crushing the strips into pulp and filtering out long fibres. However, the overview is unclear: “The process begins on cutting” conflicts with the earlier planting and harvesting stages, and the description does not clearly distinguish the initial agricultural stages from the later manufacturing stages. The final clothing stage is mentioned, but the account could explain the full sequence more precisely. The response is also 141 words, below the required 150, so it does not fully meet the task’s length requirement. Add a concise, accurate overview and a little more detail about the stages to complete the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs describing the process. The stages are mostly presented in their correct order, and phrases such as “whereas” and “after that” help signal relationships. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow because several steps are compressed into long sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “The bamboo is planted…” moves from cutting and crushing to filtering and softening without clear punctuation or linking. The overview also repeats information from the introduction without giving a clear summary of the process. Use shorter sentences to group the growing and manufacturing stages, and choose linking expressions that show sequence consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “filtered,” “fibers,” “spinning” and “weaving,” which allows the reader to recognise most stages. There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “separate long fibers from liquid.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “harveting,” “autum,” “beggins,” “continuosly” and “seperate.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “adding some chemicals” and “a final product made from a bamboo.” Aim for accurate spelling and more exact process language; for example, name the water and amine oxide rather than referring vaguely to chemicals, and describe the final output as clothing made from bamboo fabric.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a sequence introduced by “after that.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors that make the process harder to follow. In “The bamboo fabric has 9 stages of process,” the noun phrase and verb construction are faulty; a process has stages, rather than the fabric having them. The sentence beginning “The bamboo is planted…” also joins multiple clauses without appropriate punctuation, while “From softening the fibers it proceed to spinning” has an incorrect verb form and unclear subject. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention as well. Practise writing one or two stages per sentence, checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms and punctuation before combining clauses.
